Using The Care Ledger
We want families to be able to read the evidence and use the calculator, regardless of device, vision, or input method.
This page describes the site as it works today. It is not a claim of formal accessibility certification.
Features built into the site
- Keyboard access: links, buttons, filters, menus, and calculator fields can be reached and operated without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator.
- Skip links and landmarks: each page provides a way to move past repeated navigation, and uses headings and named navigation regions to describe its structure.
- Readable type and colors: the default body face is Atkinson Hyperlegible. A dark-color option is available and the choice is saved on the device.
- Responsive pages: content reflows for phone and desktop widths without requiring a separate mobile site.
- Text alternatives: meaningful interface controls have accessible names. Decorative artwork is hidden from assistive technology.
- Motion and data preferences: nonessential transitions are removed when reduced motion is requested, and the homepage illustration is omitted when reduced data is supported.
Known limitations
Many source documents are PDFs or state websites that we do not control. Some may have poor headings, scanned text, inaccessible tables, or other barriers. We provide the important figure, date, unit, evidence label, and source context in HTML, but the linked original may still be hard to use.
Charts supplement the same figures presented in text and tables; they are not intended to be the only way to obtain a value. If any page makes information available only visually, that is a defect we want to correct.
